Sustainability events champion eco-friendly living

Albany’s Green Fair on the Square is back this weekend, providing eco-friendly tips and tricks in the heart of the CBD.

In its seventh year, the event will feature a wide array of engaging activities including cardboard box cubby building, nature crafts, electric vehicle display and a selection of local stallholders.

The eco-lovers event coincides with the City of Albany’s Community Bike Chat, which encourages residents and visitors alike to cycle their bike to the Town Square for a free coffee voucher.

Join City staff to learn about local paths and trails, receive bike advice from local experts, find out about local cycling clubs and provide your feedback on the Great Southern 2050 Cycling Strategy.

Continuing the sustainability theme next door in Alison Hartman Gardens will be the Kinjarling Permaculture Festival.

This will feature live music, market stalls and workshops with a focus to share knowledge on ecological concepts, inspire action and increase local resilience.

City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe encouraged people from all backgrounds and experiences to attend the festivities.

“Green Fair on the Square has joined forces with the Community Bike Chat and the Kinjarling Permaculture Festival to offer a 360 degree approach to sustainability,” he said.

“The day will provide residents and visitors alike with a number of excellent resources to help them take valuable steps towards living a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle.

“Whether you’re a recycling novice or a sustainability hero, there will be something for everyone to learn at these events.”

Green Fair on the Square, Community Bike Chat and the Kinjarling Permaculture Festival are on Saturday, 29 October from 10am to 2pm in Albany Town Square and Alison Hartman Gardens.
