Special Electors' Meetings

The Local Government Reform Bill 2023 passed through Parliament on 11 May 2023 delivering tranche one of the proposed local government reforms.

Changes to Special Electors' Meetings

The number of signatures required to call a Special Electors' Meeting has increased from 100 to 300.

The Mayor will have discretion to direct that a Special Electors' Meeting not be held regarding the same subject more than once in a twelve month period. If a refusal is made a report to the next Ordinary Council Meeting must be prepared explaining the refusal.

Standardised Meeting Procedures

Currently, Special Electors' Meetings are conducted in accordance with the City of Albany Standing Orders Local Law 2014 (as amended).

As part of local government reform, standardised meeting procedures will simplify how local government meetings are conducted, and provide uniformity across all local governments.

The standardised meeting procedures will also apply to Special Electors' Meetings.

Further information regarding the reforms can be found here: LG Reforms
