About Albany Motorsport Park
Albany Motorsport Park is a family-friendly, affordable, and sustainable motorsport facility designed to serve the Great Southern Region. It supports a wide range of motorsport disciplines and compatible recreational activities, making the most of shared infrastructure to benefit the entire community.
Albany has a proud motorsport history dating back to the 1930s. This purpose-built venue continues that legacy, offering a safe and modern space for the region’s growing motorsport community.
Motorsport is already a vibrant part of life in Albany and our surrounding areas, supported by strong local clubs and popular events such as the Albany Classic, Show ‘n Shine, and Targa Albany Sprint. While the region has existing venues for speedway and go-karts, there has long been a gap for motorcycle racing and motocross. Albany Motorsport Park helps fill that gap with flexible design features that cater to diverse user groups and meet contemporary safety standards, for motorsport and other activities like cycling.
The venue is operated by Albany Motorsport Venue Inc. (AMV Inc.). Information about upcoming events and programs is available on the https://albanymotorsportpark.com.au .

May 2026 – Updated Noise Management Plan Approved for Albany Motorsport Park (Motocross Precinct)
The City of Albany has formally approved an updated Noise Management Plan (NMP) for the Motocross Precinct at Albany Motorsport Park under the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997. The updated NMP was revised following the outcome of a formal appeals process and a determination by the Minister for the Environment on 4 March 2026. The revised plan gives effect to outcomes arising from that process, including strengthened operational controls, improved community notification requirements, and enhanced compliance and reporting measures.
An appealable notice relating to the updated approval was published in the Western Australian Government Gazette on 15 May 2026 under the Environmental Protection Act 1986.

About the Noise Management Plan
The NMP outlines how noise emissions from motocross activities will be managed to minimise impacts on surrounding landowners and the broader community. The plan includes operational controls, event scheduling requirements, complaint handling procedures, monitoring obligations, and reporting requirements.
Under the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997, approved motorsport venues may operate with noise emissions exceeding standard assigned levels where activities are conducted strictly in accordance with an approved Noise Management Plan and all conditions of approval are met. The NMP was prepared by Albany Motorsport Venue Inc. with support from acoustic consultants and underwent public consultation, regulatory review, and consideration through the formal appeals process.
Key Updates in the Approved NMP
The updated plan includes:
- clearer limits on the frequency, duration and scheduling of motocross activities;
- defined annual limits on activity days;
- improved community notification procedures, including publication of event calendars and direct email alerts;
- strengthened complaint handling and response protocols;
- enhanced monitoring, record keeping and reporting commitments; and
- a requirement to review the Noise Management Plan within three years.
National-level events are not included within the scope of approved operations under the current NMP. The approved NMP supports structured yet flexible scheduling to assist rider safety and operational requirements while maintaining oversight, accountability, and transparency.
Appeals Process
Any person aggrieved by the decision may lodge an appeal with the Minister for the Environment within 21 days of publication of the Gazette notice. Appeals are administered through the Appeals Convenor under the Environmental Protection Act 1986.

Key Governance Notes
- The approved NMP applies only to the Motocross Precinct.
- Other tracks and precincts within Albany Motorsport Park remain subject to separate approvals and regulatory processes.
- A Conflict of Interest Management Plan (COIMP) remains in place to support transparency regarding the City’s involvement in the project.
