Employee Benefits

The City of Albany’s employees enjoy a range of benefits that assist our staff achieve their career goals and have a good work/life balance. These include:

Flexible Work Arrangements

The City recognises that flexible work arrangements help employees achieve a work-life balance and assist in creating a positive work environment. Employees can access structured systems such as regular Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) and Rostered Day Off (RDO) or arrange more informal systems such as varied start and finish times.

Superannuation Contributions

Employees are able to make up to 6% additional superannuation contributions which the City will match up to a total of $4,500 per annum.

Over-award Salaries

The City offers wages/salaries well above those found in the Local Government Industry Award 2010.

Novated Leases

All permanent employees at the City are able to utilise Novated Leases to purchase a vehicle or e-bike for their personal use.

Leave Entitlements

Annual Leave

All City employees are entitled to 4 weeks annual leave per year and 17.5% leave loading on all annual leave. In addition, employees under the City’s Enterprise Agreement can elect to purchase up to 8 weeks of extra leave per calendar year.

Long Service Leave

After 7 years of service, employees under the City’s Enterprise Agreement are entitled to 13 weeks long service leave.

Festive Leave

Additional leave of up to 3 days between the 25th and 31st December each year during the City’s shutdown period.

Development Opportunities

The City provides opportunities for employees to develop their skills via higher duties, acting roles and internal secondments.

Training and Development

The City encourages its employees to increase their skills and knowledge related to their employment. A variety of training and development opportunities are available through the City including tertiary studies, short courses, conferences, seminars, workshops and more. To assist staff to meet their goals in this area employees may access study leave for exam preparation and attendance.

Employee Recognition

Employees of all levels are encouraged to nominate each other for Values and Safety Awards. These awards are given to employees who have gone above and beyond to meet the City’s Values or create a safe work environment.

Subsidised Uniform

Front-line customer service and outdoor employees are provided with uniforms by the City at no cost. All other employees are able to purchase corporate uniforms at a subsidised rate each financial year.

Health and Wellbeing

The City encourages its employees to maintain a mentally and physically healthy lifestyle. Employees have the opportunity to access or be involved in a variety of health and wellbeing programs throughout the year. These include skin cancer screenings, flu vaccinations, events such as White Ribbon Day, presentations on various health topics and awareness workshops.

Employee Assistance Program

The City is committed to providing a free, confidential and flexible counselling service that assists employees identify and resolve a range of work related and personal concerns.

Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre Discount

Permanent and long term temporary employees receive a discount of ~50% on individual memberships and ~15% on family memberships at ALAC.

The City's employment conditions are covered by the relevant State Awards (Local Government Officers (Western Australia) Award 2021, Municipal Employees (Western Australia) Award 2021 and the Child Care (Subsidised Centres) Award) and the corresponding City of Albany Above Award Policies.
