Albany is one of only two Western Australian towns named in the top 10 of Wotif’s 2020 Aussie Town of the Year Awards.
It’s the second successive year Albany has been recognised as one of the top town’s, last year coming runner-up to Port Fairy in Victoria.
This year Albany comes in at 7th, ahead of Margaret River in 9th with the overall winner announced as Coffs Harbour in New South Wales.
The popular travel website determines its winners by traveller reviews, tourism demand and affordability and cited Albany’s rich heritage, stunning coastline and unique mountain ranges as worthy of the top 10.
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said Albany was growing in popularity as a destination and its second successive listing in the top 10 Aussie Towns of the Year awards reflected that.
“Albany is in a fantastic state, and we have a reputation as a beautiful and picturesque city thanks to our unique coastline, stunning mountain ranges, amazing food and wine and breathtaking adventure trails,” he said
“We are thrilled to be acknowledged by Wotif as a top Aussie town again, and welcome every visitor to Albany to experience the culture and lifestyle we have to offer”.
Mayor Wellington said the award was a credit to local businesses, tourism operators and residents who make Albany a friendly and accommodating place for visitors.
