#albanyinthistogether connects community

Published on Tuesday, 14 April 2020 at 3:58:39 PM

The City of Albany has launched an online campaign to help keep the community connected despite the challenges of current COVID-19 restrictions.

#albanyinthistogether encourages community members, businesses and families to share how they are staying in business or keeping their minds and bodies active during isolation and restricted socialising.

Takeaway options, new delivery services, home workout hacks or creative kids’ activities, the City are encouraging the community to post their photos and videos on social media with the hashtag #albanyinthistogether so we can share it with everyone.

The campaign includes a new website www.albanyinthistogether.com with content areas such as Move Your Muscles, Connected Community, Support Local, Boredom Busters and a place for the community to contribute their own ideas.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said the campaign was one way the City was aiming to support the community during COVID-19.

“These are difficult times for everyone and it’s more important than ever that we find innovative ways that we as a community can stay connected and support each other,” he said.

“This campaign is a way for community to promote how small businesses are adapting so we can all continue to support them, and things we’re doing as individuals to stay physically and mentally well.”

Teams across the City are working to kickstart the campaign with home sustainability tips from Fossicker’s, and easy-at-home craft activities from Albany Regional Daycare staff.

Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre are providing free at home workouts to keep everyone physically active with challenges and levels to suit all fitness types, and Albany Public Library have online options including Click & Collect, Storytime and Rhymetime for the kids, and a home delivery service for vulnerable residents.

Vancouver Arts Centre are working on some online and streaming experiences that incorporate the music, arts and culture of Albany that the community can enjoy from the comfort of their own home.

Community can start using #albanyinthistogether now, and follow @TheCityofAlbanyWA on Facebook and Instagram to stay connected. Any local businesses or community members wanting to know more about how to be part of the campaign can email [email protected].
