The City of Albany is launching a new pilot program to give future and current business owners a head start, with direct access to expert advice before lodging an application.
Starting this month, City Planning, Building and Environmental Health staff will be available at Albany Public Library for a half-day each month to answer questions and offer early support.
The sessions, titled Small Business Friendly Application Assistance, are open to anyone considering starting, expanding or redeveloping a business in Albany and are designed to help people feel prepared, informed and application-ready from the outset.
Manager Economic Development and Commercial Services Kristen Pyrz-Brown said the sessions were part of a broader strategy to support and engage the local business community.
“These sessions are about making the City more visible and accessible to those thinking about opening or evolving a business in Albany,” Ms Pyrz-Brown said.
“We want people to see the City as a key partner in creating a thriving, vibrant place to live, work and visit.
“It’s a chance to help people get it right from the start by offering clear, supportive advice early in their journey.”
Albany Mayor Greg Stocks said the initiative aligned with the City’s wider focus on supporting sustainable economic growth and creating a welcoming environment for investment and innovation.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and anything we can do to make the process clearer and more accessible is a win for the whole community,” Mayor Stocks said.
“We want to remove the guesswork, open the lines of communication and help local ideas grow into successful ventures.
“This pilot is a practical way to support the people who are helping shape Albany’s future.”
The first Small Business Friendly Application Assistance session will be held at Albany Public Library on May 30.
