Community the key in planning for the future

Community have worked with the City of Albany to develop the City’s Strategic Community Plan 2032.

Five key pillars of community importance - People, Planet, Place, Prosperity and Leadership are the guiding themes of the City’s Plan. Together these pillars provide a 360-degree approach to supporting and growing the city.

Work to develop the Plan commenced in October 2020 with community workshops, surveys, pop-up engagement sessions and conversations with residents all held to identify community priorities and inform the development of the Plan.

A community scorecard survey was undertaken in March 2021. This survey asked a sample of residents to rate local services and facilities as the first step in the engagement process with the community.

The community identified priorities that included climate change, youth services, footpaths, cycleways, economic development, job creation and safety.

The highest scoring areas were place to live, place to visit, tourism attractions and marketing, recognition and respect for Aboriginal cultures and heritage, public health and wellbeing programs, education, community buildings, library services and public toilets.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said it was pleasing to see so many community members take part and providing feedback on the future direction of Albany.

“We had more than double the amount of residents respond to the Community Scorecard survey than last time which is just a fantastic outcome for everyone,” he said.

“The priorities identified within the Strategic Community Plan have been streamlined into our Corporate Business Plan which will aim to turn our vision into measureable outcomes.

“This process has delivered a new vision statement; Amazing Albany, where anything is possible. A statement Council is passionate about and captures a progressive community culture.”

A Strategic Community Plan display is showcased at the Albany Public Library from Monday 13 September to Friday 24 September.
