Screenwest helps to put Albany’s name in lights

Albany has recently been formally recognised as a filming destination with the awarding of Film Friendly City status by Screenwest.

The City were required to fulfil a number of elements in order to secure the status including taking part in compulsory workshops, completing online certification and adopting a streamlined permit process.

Being a certified member of the Screenwest Film Friendly Program means the City can offer efficiencies such as standard response times, access to key locations, logistical advice together with tools to balance filming requests with the needs of the local area.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said being officially part of the Screenwest program builds on the great work that has already been done in this space across the region.

“We have seen what Albany can offer producers through the likes of the ‘H is for Happiness’ movie and children’s television show ‘Itch,” he said.

“Albany has so many picturesque locations that all offer something unique. We want to make sure filmmakers get the most out of their time here by offering local knowledge as well as concise and transparent service.

“Attracting more productions to the Great Southern can provide a boost to our tourism, increase our economic development and benefit our local businesses across the board.”
