As part of the ongoing works to upgrade the landscape and public realm at Middleton Beach, the boardwalk entry at Ellen Cove will be closed whilst development to a new path is underway.
Stage one of the Middleton Beach Foreshore Enhancement project that commenced in November 2019 included construction of a seawall, retaining wall, concrete wave reflector and upgrades to storm water drainage.
The second stage to the project is now underway and involves the design and implementation of improved landscape and public amenities such as revised facilities, service infrastructure and access.
Part of stage two is the development of a boardwalk and jetty link that will allow for a more convenient connection for pedestrians to go from the beach, to the boardwalk with ease.
In order for the new path to be aligned and concrete to be poured, the entry to the boardwalk at Ellen Cove will be closed from Monday 17 August until Friday 21 August.
City of Albany Executive Director Infrastructure, Development and Environment Paul Camins said this temporary closure will not impact the boardwalk itself.
“The community are still able to access the popular boardwalk but will need to do so via the alternative entry points along Marine Drive for these five days,” Mr Camins said.
“We aim to have the Ellen Cove boardwalk entry open again as soon as possible and have our fingers crossed for good weather during this phase of development for the new path.”
Temporary signage will be installed at Ellen Cove this week to alert users of the brief closure to the boardwalk entry point.
