City call and check on community

Published on Wednesday, 29 April 2020 at 4:27:49 PM

Albany residents who would like someone to check in on them regularly can now register for the ‘Call and Check’ service through the City of Albany.

Members of the public who have registered for assistance with the Albany Public Library, Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre or specific assistance with their bins are already enrolled for the new service, but now new members can register themselves or a loved one.

The Call and Check service will be available via telephone with required social distancing, and can be as frequent as each registered member feels they need.

The City is also hosting a daily check-in call for all residents at the same time each day for those who want to connect with someone virtually.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said the program aimed to keep vulnerable residents socially connected while the current pandemic keeps us physically apart.

“Isolation and loneliness are real wellbeing concerns for people who are alone, even in the best of times,” he said.

“We need to look out for and reach out to these people and ensure they don’t fall through the cracks and that someone is connecting with them and helping when we can.”

Those members who are already registered have the ability to opt out at any time and registered members have the flexibility to change the time, date, frequency or way they connect with the City of Albany.

If residents wish to register themselves or someone they know to the Call and Check program or the daily video call, they can call 6820 3023 or email [email protected]
