Albany Public Library and Community Bank Albany are partnering to enhance digital skills across the local community.

Launching in early August and supported by a grant from the Good Things Foundation and Community Bank Albany, the project responds to the growing need for residents to feel confident navigating the digital world safely, as more essential services, including banking, move online.

Digital literacy has been a core focus for Albany Public Library for more than five years as a Be Connected Network Partner.

The Library currently assists around 100 community members each month through a suite of support services. These include group workshops on topics like avoiding scams and online banking, a Technology Lending Service for tablets, and the popular weekly Digital Drop-In sessions, where staff and volunteer mentors provide free one-on-one assistance with personal devices.

Through the new partnership, Community Bank Albany will refer customers directly to the Library’s existing digital support services, helping them access targeted assistance while expanding the reach and impact of the Library’s current programs.

City of Albany Manager Arts & Culture Paul Nielsen said the partnership would help foster a more connected and digitally confident community.

“Our shared goal is to see community members feel more confident about their digital skills and online safety,” he said.

“This collaboration marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in Albany, building a positive and ongoing relationship between two key community institutions.”
