Ian Clarke was elected to the City of Albany Council in 2025, bringing with him decades of leadership, community service, and a strong commitment to the wellbeing of young people and families across the Great Southern.
Before joining Council, Ian served with the Western Australia Police Force for more than 39 years, holding roles across regional and metropolitan areas, including extensive country service in the Kimberley, Goldfields, Wheatbelt and South West Districts. In recognition of his distinguished service, he was awarded the Australian Police Medal in 2018.
In 2021, Ian retired from the Police Force to become Chief Executive Officer of the Albany Youth Support Association, overseeing a 24/7 refuge providing emergency accommodation and support to young people aged 15 to 25. Ian has since stepped back from the CEO role but remains in a part-time capacity focused on major projects, including the Foyer Accommodation project.
He currently serves as Chair of the Great Southern Grammar Board and sits on the Discovery Bay and Albany Community Care Boards. Ian also continues to volunteer as an Ambulance Officer with St John Ambulance Albany.
With a lifelong dedication to public service and community wellbeing, Ian brings integrity, practical experience, and a strong local focus to his role as a Councillor for the City of Albany.
