Albany Public Library has been selected as one of just 20 libraries across Australia to host a media literacy workshop inspired by the ABC documentary series The Matter of Facts on 28 May 2026.
Delivered in partnership with the ABC, libraries nationwide will run interactive sessions aimed at strengthening community understanding of misinformation and disinformation.
Hosted at Albany Public Library, the workshop will draw on content from the three-part series presented by journalist Hamish Macdonald.
Participants will engage with curated video segments, guided discussions, and collaborative breakout activities designed to build practical skills for navigating today’s complex media landscape.
The two-hour workshop will cater for groups of approximately 20 to 30 participants, ensuring an interactive and engaging experience.
Attendees will also receive take-home resources to support ongoing learning beyond the session.
Manager Arts and Culture Paul Nielsen said the opportunity places Albany at the forefront of an important national conversation.
“This is a valuable opportunity for our community to develop the critical thinking skills needed to confidently assess the information they encounter every day,” he said.
“In an era of constant information flow, empowering people with the tools to question, verify and understand media content is essential.
“We are proud that Albany Public Library has been recognised as a host location for this important program.”
The workshops are designed to be accessible and relevant to a broad audience, from students and professionals to retirees and community groups, reflecting the growing importance of media literacy.
Hosting this national initiative reinforces Albany Public Library’s commitment to delivering programs that respond to contemporary challenges and support an informed and engaged community.
