Whether you have a cuppa over the fence or a chat as you put your wheelie bins out each week, the City of Albany are inviting residents to get to know their neighbours on Sunday 28 March.
Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community that encourages people to connect with their neighbours whether near, far or online in order to make creative connection and stay connected.
The theme for 2021 is ‘every day is neighbour day’ where the City are inspiring Albany locals to help break down loneliness in their community by building meaningful connections with those around them.
Individuals who wish to organise an event can apply to the City of Albany for a $50 voucher and community groups can apply for a $100 voucher to help with the food for their event.
City of Albany Senior Community Development Officer Tammy Flett said the past 12 months has made the 2021 Neighbour Day event more relevant than ever.
“Now is the perfect time to get creative and contribute to building supportive and social communities that check in on one another, look out for each other and have each other’s backs,” said Ms Flett.
“Covid has taught us what it is like to be isolated from those we love, given us a taste of social loneliness and made us more aware of staying connected whilst we are apart
“The City provide free Neighbour Day kits for registered events which includes a cricket wicket wheelie bin sticker and the use of an exciting activity bag; community members just need to enquire with the City’s Community Development team.”
