We all have one; a favourite coffee shop, a restaurant that never disappoints or a reliable lawn mowing service – they are our small businesses and the City is showing its commitment to them by signing the Small Business Friendly Local Government Charter.
Developed by the Small Business Development Corporation, the Small Business Friendly Local Government Charter formally recognises local governments that are demonstrating, or working towards, better practice in engaging with their small business community.
Signing the Charter means the City have committed to local small business by offering good customer service, reducing red tape, making on-time payments and having a dispute-resolution process.
Specific commitments from the City include enhancing relationships with existing business entities, engage neighbouring local governments on common interest initiatives and promoting Albany’s small businesses where possible.
City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said it is important that everyone gets behind our local small businesses.
“We learnt last year that roughly 70 cents of every dollar spent at a local Albany business stays in the community so with that in mind, signing this Small Business Friendly Local Government Charter was a no-brainer,” he said
“Our small business industry is highly valued by the City as we know they help to build a vibrant economy, provide our community with goods and services and create employment opportunities.
“The impact of our purchasing decision to a small business is felt long after the customer leaves the store and we want to make sure they have the support they need from the City to thrive.”
With over 3,300 small businesses operating in Albany, the City are proud to show their unwavering support for these local traders.
