The City of Albany have spent the past 7 years gathering important data that will enable a bright future for the Emu Beach precinct and are asking the community for input on this important area of our coast.
The Emu Point to Middleton Beach Coastal Adaptation and Protection Strategy commenced in 2013 in order to better understand the key assets at risk along this stretch of coastline.
A Foreshore Management Plan is being developed as part of the strategy to guide future development and management of the Emu Beach foreshore and provide new community amenities.
A vulnerability study was carried out that explored the likelihood of hazards occurring, consequences of these hazards and the adaptive capacity of assets that guide the Foreshore Management Plan.
City of Albany Executive Director Infrastructure, Development and Environment Paul Camins said this is a popular stretch of our coastline and requires community input to secure its ongoing use.
“The outcome of the Foreshore Management Plan will guide future investment in land uses, facilities, structures and land management so it is important for the community who will use this area to have their say on how it will look in the next 10 years and beyond,” Mr Camins said.
"The plan will integrate the coastal adaptation recommendations with environmental and landscape management to provide a sustainable landscape design that retains and strengthens the Emu Beach and Emu Point landscape character.”
Community are invited to find out more via information boards displayed at Emu Point Foreshore opposite the Emu Point Café or at the City of Albany North Rd office from July to August.
