'Brush Up' Theatre Makeup and Wig Care

A workshop on learning how to apply special aging effects makeup for stage and professionally install wigs for theatre productions. Demonstrated by Bonnie Henderson, with a Diploma of Screen and Media with a Specialist in Hair and Makeup, at The Australian Academy of Cinemagraphic Makeup RTO: 31527. Bonnie is a qualified SFX artist and hair stylist for film and co-head of ALOTCo’s makeup department. You will learn how to create aged character looks and secure wigs suitable for the most vigorous choreography.

A ‘Certificate’ will be supplied with course contents to add to the participants portfolio.

Minimum age 10yrs old and only 15 participants.

This hands-on workshop will guide participants through the techniques of creating realistic old age makeup for stage performances. Learn how to use highlighting, shading, and contouring to emphasise facial features, create wrinkles, and suggest the natural effects of aging under stage lighting. Participants will practice step-by-step applications, explore different products and tools, and gain confidence in designing age-appropriate looks for characters. Ideal for actors, makeup artists, and theatre enthusiasts looking to expand their skills in character transformation.

This practical workshop introduces participants to the essential techniques of wig application for stage productions. Learn how to correctly prep natural hair and maintain it for repeated performances. The session will also cover blending hairlines to ensure a natural appearance under stage lighting, as well as provide tips for quick backstage changes. Participants will gain confidence in creating polished, character-appropriate looks while ensuring comfort and durability throughout performances. Ideal for performers, makeup artists, and crew members wanting to enhance their theatre hair and wig skills.

Only registered participants can attend. No parents or carers, there will be plenty of adult supervision.
