ALAC hit the ground running

Due to the State Government restrictions lifting as the roadmap out of COVID-19 enters phase 4, ALAC are extending member access to the spa, steam room, toddler pool, 24/7 gym and term 3 of Swim School.

The gym will be staffed Monday to Saturday with daily cleaning taking place and the aquatics precinct will be open Tuesday to Saturday with access through the shared foyer and front entry.

The return of the popular Long Live You program will be up and running once again from July 6, with a lighter schedule due to capacity restrictions and physical distancing measures where possible.

Championing the official second term of the Long Live You program is 76-year-old regular cyclist Leith Roe who rides twice a week with the local over 60’s cycle club the Albany Cycling Cockies.

As one of the six Great Southern active seniors leading the program, Leith said their cycling group started with a bunch of farmers and grew from there.

“We basically started riding in gumboots and jeans, we were very casual initially but soon found our feet and branched out into more of the community.

“The benefits of riding not only enable you to remain fit from a starting point but if something does go wrong with your health your ability to handle that problem physically is enhanced,” he said.

Acting Executive Director Community Services Nathan Watson said further reopening of ALAC’s services was welcome news for the community.

“ALAC supports the health and wellbeing of our community through sporting fixtures, gym, aquatics, senior fitness programs and more, so we’re really pleased the community is able to reconnect with all these services again in some capacity,” he said.

“Staff at the centre are looking forward to welcoming members back, and all the participants in the Long Live You program.”

Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre will commence their phase 4 re-opening capacity from July 1st and more information can be found at albanyleisurecentre.com.au
