Coromal Caravan Rally

More than 450 caravans from all over Australia will arrive in Albany early next month to take part in a major national event that has not been in Western Australia for almost two decades.

The Coromal Windsor 17th National Caravan Clubs Rally will be in the eastern precinct of Centennial Park’s sporting grounds from Sunday, October 13 to Tuesday, October 22, bringing an influx of visitors into the region.

It follows the City of Albany successfully hosting the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia National Rally with over 800 participants in 2015.

Mayor Dennis Wellington said hosting events like these injected significant spend into the local community, with the caravan rally expected to spend about $1 million locally.

“It’s one of the objectives of our Community Strategic Plan to bring significant events like this to Albany, so we’re very pleased to have this rally here. It’s the first time the rally has been to WA in about 17 years so we’re very excited and encourage everyone to make them welcome,” he said.

Caravans are expected to increase on roads in the region in the days leading up to the event as travellers begin to arrive, so the City is urging motorists to show patience and understanding.

Strategies will be implemented to manage the flow of caravans to the event site between Sunday, October 13 and Monday, October 14, and when they leave on October 22, but there could still be some traffic disruption.

“Those involved are doing what they can to minimise disruption but with so many caravans arriving it’s expected that there could still be delays along North Road and Cockburn Road on those days,” Mayor Wellington said.

“We’d ask drivers to show patience and understanding as this event will benefit the whole community and a lot of effort is being put in to manage it as smoothly as possible.”

As part of the City’s support for the rally, event participants will be able to access the National Anzac Centre and Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre, and participate in activities at Albany Public Library.

There will be a trade show open to the public in the Agricultural Society’s exhibition pavilion on Friday, October 18 from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday, October 19 from 9am to 4pm.
