Members of the Albany community are encouraged to nominate local heroes for recognition in the 2027 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

Nominations are now open for the Community Citizen of the Year Awards which celebrate the remarkable and often unrecognised efforts of the people who help make Albany a vibrant, caring and connected place to live.

The awards acknowledge local leaders, inspire positive community spirit, and shine a light on the invaluable voluntary work happening across the city every day.

Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks said the awards are an opportunity for the community to thank those who have made a lasting impact on Albany.

“Across Albany there are countless people who generously give their time to support others, strengthen community connections and make our city a better place,” Mayor Stocks said.

“These awards are an opportunity to recognise those individuals, groups and events whose efforts often happen behind the scenes but have a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

“If you know someone who is making a difference, I encourage you to take a few minutes to nominate them and ensure their contribution is celebrated.”

Nominations are open now and close on Friday, October 31, 2026.

Award categories include:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
  • Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16 to 30 years)
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
  • Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)

Presented alongside the Community Citizen of the Year Awards for the third consecutive year is the Annette Knight Community Leadership Medal.

This local honour recognises a voluntary leader who embodies the legacy of the late Annette Knight through outstanding compassion, community service and unwavering dedication to Albany.

Community members are encouraged to consider the people, groups and events that have made a positive difference over the past year and submit a nomination.

Nominations can be made at https://www.albany.wa.gov.au/facilities/community/awards.aspx  before the closing date of Friday, October 30, 2026.
