The City of Albany has been crowned runner up at the Most Accessible Communities Awards for the Marine Drive Accessible Lookout and the City’s ongoing commitment to inclusive public spaces.

The award highlights the City’s continued work to improve access to Albany’s natural attractions, ensuring residents and visitors of all abilities can enjoy the region’s unique coastal landscapes.

As part of the City of Albany’s commitments under its current Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, the City has prioritised making its network of lookouts as accessible as possible.

Of the City’s 20 lookouts, five have now been upgraded to improve accessibility, with Marine Drive Lookout delivered during the 2025–2026 financial year as the latest project in this ongoing program.

Marine Drive Lookout offers one of Albany’s most iconic vantage points, overlooking King George Sound, Binalup / Middleton Beach, Emu Point, Mt Martin and Torndirrup National Park.

Long regarded as a favourite destination for both residents and visitors, the upgraded design has breathed new life into the site, improving access while maintaining its natural appeal.

City of Albany Mayor Greg Stocks said the recognition reflected the City’s strong focus on inclusion and liveability.

“This is a proud moment for Albany and reflects the commitment we have made to ensuring our natural attractions are accessible to everyone,” he said.

“Marine Drive Lookout is a place that holds deep meaning for our community, and these upgrades mean more people can now experience those views and that sense of connection, regardless of ability.

“As Albany continues to grow as a sought-after place to live and visit, inclusive design is essential.

“We want everyone to be able to experience our coastline, our history and our natural beauty.”

Marine Drive Lookout is located along an accessible route along Binalup/Middleton Beach, Corndarup/Mount Clarence and the CBD, offering a stop for sunrise viewing and whale spotting.

The City’s continued investment in accessible infrastructure reflects its commitment to building a more inclusive Albany.
