The City of Albany has officially declared the results of the 2025 Albany local government election, which saw a strong field of 23 candidates contesting four vacancies at the Council table.

Attracting a voter turnout of 38.7%, the Albany community demonstrated their strong engagement in local governance and interest in shaping the future of the city.

The local election period highlighted a diverse range of community voices and priorities, with candidates representing a broad spectrum of interests and perspectives.

The strong level of participation reflects Albany’s civic pride and the community’s shared commitment to ensuring the city continues to thrive as a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-looking regional centre.

Two existing elected members, Thomas Brough and Robert Sutton, have been successfully re-elected, continuing their dedication and service to the Albany community.

They will be joined by Rebecca Stephens, a former Labor MP and previous council member, who returns to the chamber, and Ian Clarke APM, who has been elected to the Council for the first time.

Albany Mayor Greg Stocks congratulated all elected members and expressed his appreciation for those who have completed their terms.

“I would like to sincerely thank our outgoing elected members for their dedication and contribution to Albany,” Mayor Stocks said.

“We also welcome back returning councillors Thomas Brough and Robert Sutton, along with Rebecca Stephens and first-time councillor Ian Clarke APM.

“I want to thank our community for their participation and thoughtful input during this election. With the experience of our returning members and the fresh perspectives from our new councillors, I am confident this Council will continue to work collaboratively to guide Albany’s growth and prosperity.”

Thomas Brough, Robert Sutton, Rebecca Stephens and Ian Clarke will be sworn in as elected members at the upcoming Council Meeting on 28 October 2025.

The newly elected members join Mayor Greg Stocks, Deputy Mayor Paul Terry, Cr Lynn MacLaren, Cr Craig McKinley and Cr Mario Lionetti at the Council table.
