Albany will welcome back traditional Anzac Day commemorations this month following three years of interrupted and reduced services due to public health restrictions.
Albany’s RSL sub-branch with support from the City of Albany will deliver the Dawn and Commemorative Services, which will include the traditional Gunfire Breakfast and Troop March.
No tickets will be needed to attend this year’s commemorations, with the services open to everyone.
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said the Anzacs held a special place in Albany’s heart and it was great that the services would be unrestricted for the first time since 2019.
“Albany has a deep connection with the Anzac story, we’re very proud of that and we’re also very proud of the service and sacrifice our men and women have given to our country,” he said.
“The local RSL do a wonderful job coordinating the annual services and the City is pleased to continue to support them with remembering and honouring the service of the Anzacs and we invite everyone to join us in paying our respects.”
Albany RSL President Helen Tasker said being part of the commemorative services in Albany was a special and emotional experience.
“As the birthplace of the Anzac story, there is no more fitting place in Australia than Albany to remember our fallen heroes,” she said.
“We’re very thankful for the support of Lotterywest, the City and wider community provide us and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the Anzac Day services after several difficult and challenging years.”
