The City of Albany is inviting the community provide feedback on the draft Princess Royal Harbour Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP), developed in partnership with the community, the State Government and Southern Ports.
The CHRMAP focuses on the harbour-facing coastline within Princess Royal Harbour and has been prepared to help identify and plan for coastal hazards that may impact beaches, infrastructure, assets and surrounding land over time.
A CHRMAP uses scientific modelling, technical investigations and community input to assess potential risks and explore practical management and adaptation responses for the future.
Following community consultation and detailed technical assessments, the City has worked closely across government to develop a series of proposed management strategies.
These strategies aim to balance environmental, social and economic considerations while protecting Albany’s valued coastal areas.
The City is encouraging community and stakeholders to review the draft documents and ensure the proposed strategies align with community values and priorities before the plan is finalised.
Executive Director Infrastructure, Development and Environment Paul Camins said community feedback would play an important role in shaping the final plan.
“The Princess Royal Harbour coastline is an important environmental, recreational and cultural asset for our community, and this draft CHRMAP provides a long-term roadmap for how we can responsibly manage coastal risks into the future,” he said.
“This project has been informed by strong collaboration between government agencies, technical experts and the community, and we encourage people to review the draft documents and share their feedback to help ensure the final plan reflects local priorities and expectations.”
Once submissions on the draft CHRMAP have been reviewed, the City will finalise the document for consideration by Council.
The City is hosting two drop in sessions on Thursday 4 June from 4:30pm-6:30pm at the Albany Town Hall and Saturday 6 June from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the Museum of the Great Southern Co-op Building.
Registration is not required to attend the sessions, and community can access the draft CHRMAP, summary document, previous consultation summaries and submission information via the City’s Princess Royal Harbour CHRMAP project page.
