Formerly known as the G + B Exhibition, the rebranded showcase invites visitors to explore the ocean’s beauty, power and mystery through the eyes of talented local and regional artists.
Running until Monday, July 28, the exhibition features more than 60 pieces across a variety of mediums, from painting and sculpture to textiles, photography and mixed media.
City of Albany Manager Community Relations Elise van Gorp said the exhibition celebrates Albany’s deep maritime identity while showcasing the creativity of Great Southern artists.
“The exhibition encourages artists to reflect on their connection to the sea, whether through lived experience, imagination or cultural memory,” she said.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the quality and diversity of submissions, and it’s exciting to present an exhibition that captures the emotional, historical and environmental stories tied to our coast.”
The Albany Maritime Art Exhibition forms part of the 2025 Maritime Festival, a month-long program that includes events, performances, and family-friendly activities across the city.
The exhibition includes two prizes: a $1,000 Best Overall Entry, awarded by a judging panel at the exhibition opening, and a $500 People’s Choice Award, voted by exhibition visitors.
The People’s Choice survey will remain open until 4pm on Monday, July 28, and the Vancouver Arts Centre will open on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm for the duration of the exhibition to support weekend visitation.
