Podium finish at tourism town awards

Albany has scored silver at the 2019 Top Tourism Town awards in Karratha last week, coming in second place to Exmouth as the favourite destination in Western Australia.

This success was followed by being named a finalist at the Australian Event Awards on 18 September for the Field of Light: Avenue of Honour by Bruce Munro, coming up against huge international events such as Vivid Sydney and the Santos Tour Down Under.

City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said the results were recognition Albany was up there with the best.

“The City of Albany’s vision is to be Western Australia’s most sought-after and unique regional city to live, work and visit, and these awards show that we are well on our way to achieving that goal,” Mr Sharpe said.

“Seventy per cent of the score for the Top Tourism Town was determined by public vote, so I thank everyone who showed their support for Albany in this very tangible way.

“Thank you also to FORM and everyone in the community who supported the Field of Light: Avenue of Honour event, it was just amazing and wouldn’t have happened without the community’s support.”

The Top Tourism Town Silver award will be displayed in the Albany Visitors Centre.
