Redeveloped Club to support next generation of lifesavers

The redeveloped Albany Surf Life Saving Club (ASLSC) has officially opened, marking the beginning of a new era for lifesaving services and community connection at Binalup / Middleton Beach.

The $3.3 million upgrade has delivered a safer, more functional and welcoming facility that supports the Club’s vital role in surf lifesaving, emergency response, education and community building.

City of Albany Mayor Greg Stocks said the new facility would help the Club meet growing demand and future challenges.

“This is a club that’s been part of Albany’s story for a long time — it’s where generations have learnt to read the ocean, how to look after each other, and how to step up in moments of need,” Mayor Stocks said.

“This redevelopment ensures the Club can keep doing what it does best — but even better.

“There’s now safer, more practical storage for equipment, a proper hub for lifesaving operations, and spaces for training and community events.

“It also complements the broader Middleton Beach Foreshore redevelopment and the City’s vision for a more welcoming and active coastline.”

ASLSC President Sarah Bowles said the redevelopment was a major milestone in the Club’s long-term vision.

“This new facility is an investment in the future of our Club,” she said.

“We now have purpose-built spaces like our new Beach Patrol Centre with a dedicated first aid room, patrol briefing area and lookout, alongside an Ocean View Training Room that will help deliver better education outcomes.

“The Binalup Boardroom offers a dedicated meeting space for local groups to use, and upgrades to lighting and AV throughout the building support a wider range of events and activities.

“From improved safety across our lifesaving and surf sports areas to more weather-protected spaces for swimmers and beachgoers, this redevelopment allows us to meet growing demand while giving back to the community that supports us.”

The project was jointly funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest, the City of Albany and ASLSC. The Jack Family Charitable Trust contributed to the high-quality internal fitout.

Construction was carried out by local contractor Smith Construction and designed by H+H Architects.

The City thanks all project partners and the community for their support.
