Top athletes celebrated at Albany’s sporting night of nights

Outstanding sporting performances have been celebrated at the City of Albany 2025 Sportsperson of the Year Awards, with junior, senior, masters and open athletes’ recognised for their achievements and dedication to their sports.

AFL footballer Jordan Clark was awarded the Wellington and Reeves Sportsperson of the Year following an outstanding AFL season where he finished top five in Fremantle’s best and fairest.

He earned his first All-Australian selection in the backline after a career-best year, playing 23 games with an average of 24.3 disposals and strong efficiency and defensive impact.

The Retravision Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award was presented to Keely Berry for an exceptional year across basketball and netball.

She was part of the 2025 Basketball WA Country Championships under 18 girls winning team and named the grand final Most Valued Player. She also received the 2024/25 Club Sportsmanship Award for the A-Grade Women and was selected in the WA representative team for the inter-association all-stars competition.

In netball, Keely earned selection into the 2025 National Under 17 Squad and WA State Under 17 team, where she was again named Most Valued Player.

The Castlehow Senior Sportsperson of the Year was awarded to Jess Waldron following a dominant mountain biking season. Jess won all five races in the Amateur Women’s field at the Cannonball Mountain Bike Festival in Thredbo and claimed the Elite Women’s State Enduro Championship title, finishing second overall, in the WA State Enduro Series.

Internationally, Jess won the E-Enduro Downhill Racing Oceania Championships and placed second at the E-Enduro Downhill Racing National Championships.

Tanya Bailey was awarded Sound Life Masters Sportsperson of the Year after a standout year in mountain biking. She claimed first place at the 2025 Union Cycliste Internationale World Masters Downhill Championships in Cairns and won gold at the AusCycling Gravity Enduro Championships.

Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks said the awards highlight the depth of sporting talent across the region.

“From emerging juniors to world champions and elite professionals, these athletes demonstrate dedication, resilience and sportsmanship,” he said.

“Albany is proud of their achievements and representation on the national and international stage.”
