All hours fitness a first for ALAC

Published on Tuesday, 11 February 2020 at 10:41:00 AM

Fitness fanatics, shift workers, night owls and busy mums will have the opportunity to use the gym facilities at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre at any hour of the day with 24/7 access rolling out to existing members this month.

Existing Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre members will be able to upgrade to the new swipe card system from February 24 and use the gym at a time that suits their lifestyle, before the all-hours access feature becomes available to new members on March 20.

The City of Albany have increased security at the centre including enhanced CCTV, armed doors, first aid equipment and safety education to ensure a high level of safety for those using the gym outside normal hours.

Members looking to access the 24/7 service will need to be over 18 years of age and complete a safety induction with Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre staff to qualify for the service upgrade.

City of Albany’s Manager Recreation Services Samantha Stevens said the move to 24/7 access puts the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre in line with the fitness industry standard to provide all-hours access.

“Our members want to work out on their terms and when it suits their busy lifestyles, work demands, family life and personal preferences,” she said.

“We have gone through the necessary safety and security requirements to ensure that by offering this convenience we are protecting our members while they use the gym and give them the peace of mind that they are not at risk by exercising outside of staffed hours.”

Anyone wanting to become a member to take advantage of the 24/7 gym access at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre will be able to utilise this when the service expands in March.
