Not all heroes wear capes and when it comes to safety in cyber space, parents are the superheroes responsible for protecting their children from an increasingly complex and risky online landscape.
That’s why the City of Albany in partnership with ySafe and Rio Tinto are helping equip parents with the tools they need to keep adolescents out of harms’ way by offering a free cyber-safety education session at Albany Public Library on Tuesday, May 21.
Appropriate screen time and managing cyber bullying will be discussed as the session explores social media, gaming trends, the hottest apps and website safety.
City of Albany Manager Precinct Paul Nielsen said parents will be provided with practical ideas on creating a cyber-safe home, including how to set and enforce boundaries, how and what parental control technology to use, and general digital parenting tips.
“As an eSmart Library and community hub, Albany Public Library is proud to promote these events,” he said. “Parents will be given invaluable information to help navigate this ever-evolving and challenging space.”
This will be an invaluable education session for any parent that has ever struggled with keeping their child safe online.
