The Albany community is invited to nominate outstanding individuals, organisations, and events for the prestigious 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.
The awards celebrate the remarkable and often unsung contributions of residents who make Albany a vibrant, compassionate, and caring community.
The Community Citizen of the Year Awards aim to foster positive community spirit, acknowledge Albany’s community leaders, and raise awareness of the important and mostly voluntary work within the community.
Nominations open on Friday, September 1 and close on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
Each year the Awards include four categories:
- Community Citizen of the Year
- Senior Community Citizen of the Year (65 years or over)
- Young Community Citizen of the Year (16 - 30 years)
- Active Citizenship Award (community group or event)
The 2024 award presentations will also include a new City of Albany recognition that celebrates community leadership and is named in honour of former Town of Albany Mayor, the late Annette Knight.
The Annette Knight Community Leadership Medal will recognise a local voluntary leader in the community who exemplifies the vision, passion, and unwavering commitment to volunteering that Annette Knight embodied.
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said the awards were a great way to publicly recognise the many selfless people within the community.
“Our community is great because of the people in it, and it is these people who make our community what it is that we want to recognise, so please nominate them for an award,” the Mayor said.
“It will also be a wonderful exercise to celebrate someone who is carrying on Annette Knight’s legacy of community leadership and we look forward to receiving some inspiring nominations.”
Nominations can be completed online here or hard copy nomination forms are available from the City of Albany Administration Building on North Road.
Award recipients will be announced at the 2024 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards on 26 January.
