Works to construct a state-of-the art pump track, skate plaza and bowl as part of the Youth Challenge Park will commence this week adjacent to the Albany Skate Park behind PCYC on Sanford Road.
The park will offer improved access and multi-use spaces including an asphalt pump track, skills park, dirt jumps, skate plaza, bowl, activity areas, pedestrian pathways and spectator viewing zones for all users and abilities.
A pump track will provide the major feature of the park with a width for 6 to 8 lanes with varying challenging features and elements to suit a range of mountain bike and BMX skaters.
Comprising of three main sections, the skate plaza and bowl showcases a 5 to 7-foot-deep kidney shaped bowl, a three stair with across and down handrails and an assortment of street skating items.
City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said commencing the construction of the Youth Challenge Park was an exciting time for the young people of Albany.
“Youth Challenge Park will offer our young people both unstructured and passive activities, improved physical fitness and health as well as offering them a place for social connectivity,” Mr Sharpe said.
“An area that offers our youth a place to hang out, catch up with friends, meet new people and share skills is a fantastic addition to our social structure and gives young people a reason to stay in Albany for longer.
“The space also provides the City with another avenue to host events, workshops and activities on a much larger scale which will boost tourism and drive economic growth to the region.”
Works on the Youth Challenge Park project are expected to be completed by the middle of 2021.
