Whether you skate, ride, or roll there will be something to keep you moving at the launch of the much anticipated Albany Youth Challenge Park this September.

To officially launch the park and get all user groups down to celebrate, the City are hosting the Youth Challenge Park Official Launch Party on Friday 24 September from 4pm to 9pm.

A range of kids workshops will kick off the event from 4pm to 6pm when Freestyle Now bring their Skatepark Coaching Jam Sessions for skateboarders, scooter riders and BMX enthusiasts to town.

Sessions will inform and motivate skaters to learn new skills and develop confidence in their riding abilities as they progress at their own pace and levels throughout the Jam Session.

Two sessions will run with beginners from 4pm to 5pm and intermediate from 5pm to 6pm with a final all-in Jam Session from 6pm to 9pm.

Evening proceedings will also commence from 6pm and include a DJ, food vendors and a number of local businesses on display throughout the event.

The Youth Challenge Park Official Launch Party coincides with the annual Southern Peaks event which is back after Covid-19 put the event on hold in 2020.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said it was ideal timing to be able to launch the brand new facility to coincide with the well-established Southern Peaks event.

“The timing of our launch for Youth Challenge Park lined up perfectly with the biggest local biking event of the year, so locals and visitors can really give the new park a good test run,” he said.

“The Youth Challenge Park will offer a safe, social setting for our youth to remain active, network with other likeminded people and develop their physical and mental competency.”

Development of Youth Challenge Park has been made possible with the support of the Australian Government Community Health and Hospital Program, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Lotterywest, Albany Mountain Bike Club, and the City of Albany.

This event is made possible with the sponsorship of the Road Safety Commission, Rio Tinto and the City of Albany.
