Families across Albany are invited to join one of Australia’s most beloved children’s authors, Andy Griffiths, for a lively event celebrating imagination and the joy of reading this July.

The event is presented by Albany Public Library in partnership with the Australian Children’s Laureate Foundation and supported by the Australian Library and Information Association.

The Australia’s Children’s Laureate Foundation is the national ambassador appointed to inspire children across Australia to develop a love of reading, writing and storytelling.

The Australia’s Children’s Laureate program appoints a prominent Australian children's author or illustrator to a two-year term, where Andy Griffiths is the 2026-2027 Laureate.

Best known for the internationally bestselling Treehouse series, Griffiths will bring his trademark humour, high-energy storytelling and wild imagination to the stage.

His interactive session designed to delight children aged 5-12 years and the grown-ups who read with them will take place from 1:30pm on Sunday 12 July 2026 at the Albany Entertainment Centre.

Library Team Leader Soraya Majidi said bringing Andy Griffiths to Albany was an exciting opportunity.

“Andy Griffiths has inspired generations of children to discover the joy of reading through laughter, imagination and creativity,” she said.

“To have Australia’s Children’s Laureate Andy Grififths visiting Albany is incredibly special and we are thrilled to be able to offer this experience free for our community.

“This event is about sparking curiosity, encouraging creativity and showing children that reading can be a fun and exciting adventure.”

The event gives local families the opportunity to see the 2026-2027 Australian Children’s Laureate live in Albany as Griffiths shares his Laureate message, Reading is an Adventure!.

In addition to the hugely popular Treehouse books, Griffiths is also the author of the newly released Let’s Go!, a creative writing and drawing book launched to coincide with his Laureate term.

Audiences can expect laughter, creative chaos and plenty of inspiration in a session celebrating stories, curiosity and imagination.

Following the event, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Griffiths, with books available for purchase and signing through Paperbark Merchants.

Registrations for this free event can be made through the Albany Entertainment Centre.
