Albany’s local Sustainable Heroes will be out in force and ready to share their tips at the City of Albany’s Green Fair on the Square on November 2.

Now in its fourth year, the popular event runs from 9am to 1pm and will include the return of the Festival of Forgotten Skills as well as live entertainment, local food, lawn games, green advice and upcycled treasures.

The Festival of Forgotten Skills will give patrons the chance to learn handy skills such as crochet, soap making, how to check water and power meters, food for your mood, making tadelakt balls and DIY bat boxes.

The exuberant Eco Fairies will join the Rainbow Coast Neighbourhood Centre Community Garden and Toy Library along with face painting in the Green Sprouts corner for the kids.

Pick up a sustainable bargain for Christmas at the Artisan Upcycled Marketplace, featuring local artisan products made from recycled materials, and say hello to the friendly team from Fossicker’s Tip Shop!

Albany’s internationally renowned Shantymen will feature among a great line up of live entertainment including Sweet Water and Los Car Keys.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own cup and reusable cutlery, and the first 50 to arrive by bike will receive a free refreshment voucher.

City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe encouraged all residents and visitors to come along and learn something new about sustainability.

“Green Fair on the Square has grown every year, and I’m pleased to see it expand into the revamped Alison Hartman Gardens,” Mr Sharpe said.

“It’s sure to be a fun event, with a great focus on what we can all do individually to lead more sustainable lives.”
