Traffic Impacts in CBD for First Lights - Kinjarling
Published on Tuesday, 3 March 2026 at 9:43:41 AM
The City of Albany advises there may be traffic congestion in the CBD this weekend due to
First Lights – Kinjarling, a free drone light show presented by Fremantle Biennale as part of the City of Albany’s Albany 2026 program.
The shows will take place at Anzac Peace Park at 7.30pm on Friday 6 March, Saturday 7 March, and Sunday 8 March 2026. As the drone light show is highly weather-dependent (including wind and rain conditions), the start time may be delayed by up to 30 minutes if required. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Each night features a different 20-minute drone light show. Those attending are encouraged to arrive early and be in the Anzac Peace Park by 7pm.
Traffic conditions
- Increased traffic is expected in the CBD and surrounding areas. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
- As it is harvest season, grain truck movements along Princess Royal Drive are frequent. Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to take care and avoid crossing in unsafe locations.
- The speed limit on Princess Royal Drive will be reduced to 40km/h during event times.
- Additional City of Albany patrols will be in place to assist with traffic management and to ensure appropriate parking.
Parking and access
- Additional ACROD bays will be reserved near the site as well as an accessible drop-off area. Find out more here.
- Attendees arriving from the town centre are encouraged to access the event site by crossing the Stirling Terrace pedestrian bridge.
- Please park legally and responsibly, and do not park on verges or in restricted areas.
Temporary road and parking changes
- The parking area along Toll Place, between the roundabout and the jetty, will be closed from 4pm to 8pm on each event day.
Further traffic impacts are likely each weekend throughout March as Albany transitions from First Lights – Kinjarling to Lighting the Sound. Community members are encouraged to check back next week for updated traffic information.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
