As part of the 2025/2026 capital works programme, the City of Albany is undertaking drainage works at the southern end of Whidby Street.
South Coast Natural Resource Management and the City of Albany were successful in obtaining funding from the Federal Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program. This funding will encompass three projects including the revegetation of a portion of Yakamia Creek along Barnesby Drive, improvements to the drainage functions within Dunn Street Park and the enlargement and conversion of the Whidby Street basin into a living wetland.
Civil works are proposed to commence 17 November 2025 and expected to take approximately 5 weeks to complete, weather permitting. Follow up weed control and planting will be undertaken by South Coast Natural Resource Management in early 2026.
The works will not cause and any disruption in access to properties, however, there will be no pedestrian access to Bevan Street for the duration of the works. The Contractor will endeavour to keep disruptions to a minimum and would appreciate your co-operation in working with on-site staff.
General enquiries should be directed to Kenna Sutherland, Senior Civil Engineering Officer on 6820 3969. Urgent matters relating to the works should be directed to the site supervisor from Phoenix Civil and Earth Moving on 0428 940 754.
